The system can be as simple as just being able to see who has taken what (with no actual restrictions) to a staff member logging a call with the IT helpdesk and once a need is established their card is given permission to vend a certain item within a certain time period. Or even a mix of the two. High turnover items can be free issue whereas you have to get permission to vend a new mouse or keyboard. With the amount of homeworking these days it means that staff can get what they need when they need it but NOT from an unmonitored cupboard.
